QAPI (Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement) is a comprehensive approach required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to help organizations continuously improve quality, safety, and operational performance. The framework combines traditional quality assurance activities, which focus on identifying and correcting problems, with performance improvement strategies that proactively analyze processes and drive sustainable change.
When effectively implemented, QAPI supports better resident outcomes, strengthens regulatory compliance, enhances quality ratings, and positions organizations more favorably with referral partners and stakeholders.
